About

Meet Matthew Weinstock, Junior Golf Coach in San Jose, CA

Matthew Weinstock sets high standards in lessons while staying encouraging and supportive. Every student starts with a short talk about experience and goals, and Matthew builds the lesson plan from there.

Grip, alignment and set-up position come first, and Matthew builds a simple, repeatable swing from the ground up. The first three lessons cover the full swing, working through the bag from irons to woods while watching tempo, balance and posture closely. Matthew wants students to learn to coach their own swing by watching the flight of the ball.

Matthew teaches at San Jose Municipal Golf Course in San Jose, CA, and at Shoreline Golf Links in Mountain View and Pruneridge Golf Club in Santa Clara.

What can parents do at home to reinforce lessons?

Help your child turn putting and short chips into games, since they are easy to practice at home and matter a lot on the course. You might count how many putts in a row they can make. Use foam or plastic balls if space is tight. Above all, keep practice brief and upbeat so it feels like play rather than homework.

What makes a good junior golf coach?

Patience, clear communication and a genuine interest in young players. Strong junior coaches break skills into small steps, use games to hold attention and praise effort as much as outcomes. They set simple goals and explain them to parents too. Sitting in on a lesson is a practical way to see if the coach and your child connect.
