Meet Tyrus York, Junior Golf Coach in Nicholasville, KY

Tyrus York coached women's golf at Transylvania University from 2016 until 2024. He earned HCAC Coach of the Year honors in 2017 and 2018. He was Kentucky PGA Teacher of the Year in 2014 and 2017. In 2024 he received the Kentucky PGA Player Development Award.

As a junior he won two Player of the Year honors on the Southeast Kentucky Junior Golf Tour. He signed to play college golf at Cumberland College. In 2011 he teamed up with Larry Ward to create the High Performance Golf Academy.

How do lessons prepare a player for tournaments?

Good preparation goes well beyond the swing. Lessons can cover course management, a steady pre-shot routine and how to recover after a bad hole. How do private sessions differ from an academy?

Private lessons are built around an individual player's swing, goals and pace. An academy is usually a group setting that meets regularly, with structured drills, games and on-course play. The social side keeps many kids engaged, while individual lessons make it easier to work on detailed technical changes.
