What can parents do at home to reinforce lessons?
Help your child turn putting and short chips into games, since they are easy to practice at home and matter a lot on the course. You might count how many putts in a row they can make. Use foam or plastic balls if space is tight. Above all, keep practice brief and upbeat so it feels like play rather than homework.
What equipment should parents buy for a beginner?
Less than you might think. Some coaches keep junior clubs on hand for students to try, so ask ahead. When you do buy, choose clubs made for juniors and sized to fit now rather than clubs to grow into, which can lead to poor habits. A lightweight bag, a handful of balls and tees, and comfortable shoes round out what a beginner needs.
