How do I know my child is ready for lessons?
Look for curiosity and a little patience. Children who ask to swing a club, can listen to a brief explanation and then try again are often ready. Coordination develops with practice, so it does not need to be there at the start. Early on, the goal is enjoyment, which keeps a young player coming back for more.
What happens at the very first session?
It is largely a chance to get acquainted. Coaches typically spend time learning about your child's interests and experience, then look at how they hold the club, stand and swing. Safety and etiquette often come up early, such as where to stand while others hit. Parents can ask what the coach noticed and what to practice before the next session.
