What gear does a new golfer need to get started?
Beginners do not need a full set. Junior clubs that match your child's height and strength make learning easier, and a wedge, an iron, a wood and a putter cover the basics. Used clubs work well because kids outgrow them quickly. Add a glove if your child prefers wearing it, plus balls, tees and shoes with good grip.
How is progress measured in junior golf?
Progress in junior golf shows up in more ways than score. Coaches often track skills such as contact, distance control and putting from set spots, and compare swing video over time. For newer players, confidence, focus and enjoyment count too. Scores rarely move in a straight line, so looking at trends across many rounds gives a fairer picture than any round on its own.
