Navigating the college golf recruiting process can feel overwhelming for families new to the journey. At CAMPUS Academy, we guide athletes through this process every year, and we've learned that timing and preparation are everything.

The Recruiting Timeline

Freshman Year (Age 14-15)

Focus: Foundation Building

This year is about becoming the best player you can be, not about recruiting. However, there are important steps to take:

  • Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center
  • Begin tracking tournament scores and rankings
  • Focus on academic excellence (grades matter!)
  • Play in regional junior events

Sophomore Year (Age 15-16)

Focus: Exposure and Assessment

  • Continue building your tournament resume
  • Create a highlight video and player profile
  • Research college programs and divisions
  • Attend college golf camps
  • Connect with coaches via email (introduction only)

Junior Year (Age 16-17)

Focus: Active Recruiting

This is the most critical year for recruiting:

  • September 1st (junior year): Coaches can begin contacting you
  • Narrow your list to target schools
  • Plan official and unofficial visits
  • Compete in events where college coaches are present
  • Maintain regular communication with interested programs

Senior Year (Age 17-18)

Focus: Decisions and Commitments

  • Early signing period: November
  • National signing day: February
  • Continue visits and final decision-making
  • Complete all NCAA eligibility requirements

What College Coaches Look For

  • Work ethic
  • Team-first mentality
  • Academic commitment
